ImmigraTrust Law can help with your international hiring process.
Form I-9 requires that employers verify the employee’s identity and his or her authorization to work in the United States. Employers must complete an I-9 form within three business days of the employee’s first day of employment. Employers need to verify the employee’s documents and perform internal audits (company-initiated audits) to ensure that they are in compliance with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). For example, employers should have a compliance program in place which includes what to ask prospective employees, how to authenticate documents, and how to re-verify authorization. Internal I-9 audits are critical and are on ICE’s Best Employment Practices List. Furthermore, occasional internal audits are the best defense against Department of Homeland Security audits.
ImmigraTrust Law can help your company develop corporate immigration compliance policies and procedures. As part of the compliance procedures, we can create and conduct internal I-9 audits to assess possible liability exposure, guard against deficiencies, and implement I-9 training moving forward. We also represent employers faced with government I-9 investigations. Please contact us today to learn more about how ImmigraTrust Law can protect you and your organization from I-9 administrative fines, penalties, and criminal enforcement.
